Okay here's my whole hypothesis in this situation don't in my opinion I don't see how some people can be frustrated but this is how I see where everything is heading. Stuff for starters we just found out that the master is the leader of the demonic sect, which can also mean that he has a higher position. And I'm guessing that this sect location is supposed to be secret the same reason why he was was hiding in the dark Forest Area. He more than likely built that Village in order for our ML  since he would probably feel caged up in the home that they were in so he made it so he could be able to go around while also having his guards watch over him( I'm talking about the tavern).
I feel like the reason why he never told him anything about this is because A.) He doesn't want to worry our male lead or B.) He didn't want the mail lead to view him differently if he found out ( what she's doing right now but the only reason why is because he feels like the master doesn't trust him enough to tell him) I feel like the master does love him but he has serious stress issues and there probably was a time where he did fell in love with someone but the person left him so that's probably the reason why he so possessive over him and afraid that he's gonna leave it could also be one of the reasons why he told him to always tell the truth. And he probably fell that since the the melee confessed to him he will never leave because he's in love with him(the master) which can also probably make him think that since he's treating the male lead nice must think that he loves him back . Which is kind of dumb because you need to say it but that's just my hypothesis on it
