Yeah, this is on her. She decided that she was okay getting married to him, that should have been day 1 of telling what was going on. I'll give her grace, he wasn't an issue up to that point, fine. But as soon as she met/saw him again. Nope. Idc that you were brushing him off, Idc that you saw how sad he was. She. Should. Have. Told. Him. They both need to apologize to each other, but now the scale has tipped so that it's more her fault than his. He shouldn't have investigated behind her back, but she should have told him about her ex-lover has visited/called her several times within the span of (maybe?) A week or two.

I'm so happy that she realizes that she can be herself around him (Like, just relax and stop stressing about everything) but I really hope that she tells him what happened and doesn't keep it to herself
To be fair, she has already mentioned that she feels uncomfortable when he gets her expensive things. If he's going to be her boyfriend he needs to know where her boundary is when it comes to things like this.
