Fun fact because I've spend my whole life obsessing over orca.
their fins collapse due to the lack of pressure on either site holding it upright, as well as the excessive time at the surface (gravity pulls it down)
Its thought that different populations have different collagen strengths (what the fins are made of) for example, majority of the Russian-caught orca have minimal or no bend in their fins, while the Icelandic and American caught orca have a very high collapse rate.

I know everyone is like super confused about how quickly that has progressed. I am too, but then again we are a whole THREE chapters in, and these two have met before, we have no idea if the painter guy has some interesting colorful background and that's why he's to unfazed.
