Mason's soul is in Haley's physical body for ppl wondering, i'm 100% sure that the case was that they had "died" at the same time and Haley's soul had no meaning whatsoever (flashback to him being super rude, inconsiderate, and very sexual-harass-y) but Mason's soul did (he's morally consistent). Because of that, Haley's soul just plainly died and Mason's soul took the body of haley. 

My theory is that Mason's soul still has a "goal" which would basically be to live longer for Noah, but since Mason's body had died, it decided to just take Haley's body that still had life in it (yk the pentagram , there's supernatural stuff along the lines so that's y i think he 'died' by overdose ((just switching souls)))

yall blaming haley/mason for not headbutting him or anything when haley isn't the one who's coercing another to do stuff r we srs-- and he even explained noah was stronger y r we victim blaming here..

yeah he's disordered, it's insane they're ONLY giving him stronger meds instead of indulging in psychotherapy. mood swings, to intrusive thoughts, codependencies, and panic attacks alongside the previously stated derealization phase. it wouldn't be mason's responsibility to emotionally help noah but oh my g** how he needs it

noah is going through derealization, which explains the slower emotional processing (being like "what should it matter that mason is dead?" at first to "oh my g** mason just might be dead-- i can't live with the idea he just might be dead), pushing away help that he really does need, and the brief zoning out periods. I think that the author gives a relatively good representation of mentally ill and traumatized person. (apart from his later ra**-ful tendencies kms why do authors do this bruh)
