@Sinha Again there's no "teaching" going on. It's all being spoon fed over and over. When taught in school, you're explained how it works once or twice, then you're tasked to do it yourself with minimal guidance. That's how you teach and allow the student to grow. Throughout the story, he isn't challenged to think of the situation himself and come to his own conclusion.(at least none come to mind.)

@Sinha Yes, however how is MC meant to learn if he doesn't attempt to figure things out himself? He is always spoon fed and never challenged by those around him. Yes it's important to have those more experienced around to advise you. However if the decision maker isn't challenged to think for themselves, it leaves them open to manipulation. That's all I was saying.

@Michael Bootes Exactly, that's the first thing that came to my mind. However to be fair, the average person in that scenario they would be under a tremendous amount of stress. Inhibiting their critical thinking skills. That's why special forces undergo such harsh training, in order to train their critical thinking to function under high stress situations.
