If you are talking about the part in the novel 'demon king of salvation' then it was partially planned but Kim Dokja sacrificed himself once again, ignoring the plan, by becoming the demon king of the scenario and the company had to kill Kim Dokja to pass the scenario. There is also more involved like Kim Dokja's fate where he will die by the one he loves or something along those lines.
