Soo...Sung jin woo never wanted to become a hunter at the start, which was very understandable since he was very weak. Only after the double dungeon— which changed his whole life, he became the strongest. Because he did mention it alot of times actually. That weak hunters never can accomplish anything with such low power and that they were looked down on. So after he made sure hes the strongest— fighting the monarchs and becoming the most powerful monarch, he went 10 years back to get a second chance at the life he truly wanted. A quiet, peaceful life with his family, free from constant battles and responsibilities.
What I think I understood in these last few chapters is, that maybe sung jin woo put his son into those gates, to make him fight the monsters he once fought but easier so he won't be (maybe) suffering the same way sung jin woo did. That's why sung jin woo said "its too early" because the training was too short for him to truly become the vice monarch. The difference in the power between sung jin woo and his son is way too incomparable.
