Something happened in their past and made Gil only waiting until the days he'll be able to finally find Lance again. As he said : Lance once promised him something and he's been looking for him ever since, and that's the wait that made him gone crazy.

Sadely, at this time in the story, Lance don't remember what happened, but as it's a BL it's obvious that he will remember and he will end Gil' waiting at some point.
