@Blackfire656 in RL medieval times, sure, but we've seen other characters live until like their 80s in this series, so I don't think the author is taking into account how often they should die due to disease and a lack of good hygiene as well as medical care

@lvlHive Also possible that the dragon actually stole a thing or place from the merchant and THAT is what he wants from the dragon's corpse. But yeah, I agree, probably the others wanted other parts of a dragon.

@unknown I read the available raws until 59.2 via a TL app so I can tell you, from like 55~58 it's apparently mid time skip and showing other characters that I don't recognize. Maybe they were around and I just didn't recognize them or I completely forgot them. But anyways, in 59 you see the MC and his 2 kids, who appear to be like 9 and 10, or thereabout.
