I'm really sorry to hear that she passed on. 16 years is pretty old for a dog and she must have felt loved and safe during her time with you and your family. 

Everyone deals with grief differently so it's okay to bawl your eyes out or not cry when you think about her. Don't bury your feelings and take some time for yourself to compose if you need to.

I definitely would have offered you a hug if I was there and it sucks this happened when Christmas is near. I hope you'll be able to move on and look back on the good memories you shared with your dog. Happy Holidays!

I been through a similar experience and it's hard to process and acknowledge that the worst thing could happen.

Agreed, I think some of the people being butthurt in the comments aren't aware of how time may drastically affect the relationship depending on the circumstances. 

I know this is fiction but it's a bit concerning to see people making a fuss over the ex who isn't being toxic at all to the MC. What MC needs is time in order to heal and move on and the ex has already went through that. Some relationships are never meant to be because of bad timing.

She has her reasons why. I know this is just fiction but this is victim blaming. Partly the reason why victims are scared to speak up. Maybe you can try to be more sensitive in the future 🙂
