What sucks about his archetype is that he can either be seen as a necessary evil or an unnecessary hero. One side would sympathize with his plight in holding their timeline in a loop and being unable to stop it himself. While the other side would see no issue to his continuous sacrifice if it meant the 1.4 billion people would be saves. I'd be one of the former tbh since there were no deviating parallels that didnt account for his actual death. He quite literally became the sole problem of their world's existence. And the sole person that became the most unfortunate in the karmatic circle of the universe. He deserved eternal rest more than anyone and in order to do so, he did things that betrayed his initial character. That in and of itself is also something that makes his entire existence pitiful.
