I think that last panel series tells us a lot. I can't with names rn so the blonde guy is MC2 and the art professor guy is the professor for the sake of this comment.

I think the professor controls his students and strings many of them along, allowing them to think they have talent when really he has other motives to "keep them" as a student. MC2 pretty much says this point blank twice now.

I like to think I can sort of see the way the professor lures people in - take the water incident with MC and offering to allow him back any time for even non-reporter related things. The prof has status, money, and power. MC has something he wants - the ability to spin a narrative  AND access to MC2  (Is the professor AWARE of this access? And if so, how does he know?).

I think MC2 grew tired of being under the professors thumb. I think he realized he wouldn't ever gain true independence unless he left. I also think the professor is abusive in some way that is not yet clear. Perhaps the professor did something to someone MC2 cared about. Idk.

I think MC and MC2 are going to have to team up to bring the professor down and in the process become lovers.

These  are just my current running theories.
