Ok so basicaly the king is in love with him 
Theres one scene in the novel when he start a protest he'll stop eating and speaking the king will reach the peak of desperation start forcing him to eat the imae will bite his finger and tell him that he like its taste better (with sarcazme) so next time when he refuses to eat the king will cut his finger and give it to him asking him to eat it .
Also the king know about the poison and also knows what the cure is but he never took action 
Imae will develope feelings for him and give him the cure then he'll leave to live with the brother and it doesnt last he'll get back to him with his own feet
