okay so I finished this a while ago and I got the answer to my question. when a link is formed, the way time passes for both individuals is different. the clock stops for the human and they remain the same condition physically as when the link was made, AND you literally cannot die. your heart could be taken out from your chest multiple times, but you simply cannot.
