While the manwha might have somehow derailed from the original novel (which I haven't read) I kind of like it. The only thing I'm sad about is the unresolved paths it opened up if this truly is the end (as even animeplanet has it as finished..). While Cliff leaving to find the author was a kind of an 'ending' to his path, I do feel burdened that we likely wont get to see that as a side story, but rather an open ending to him.
I believe the after-ending (or rather, what the ending implies or leaves to readers interpretation) would have been better if Cliff remained fighting on the borders, maybe visiting Rize after all which would put his obsession at rest, or at least made him try to live a life without Rize, as the current ending of his makes it kind of feel like a cliffhanger - will he ever return? Does he love the author? Does he want revenge? Will he find peace? Will he return for revenge?
I also feel sad that we were given a kind of implication of Edith's pregnancy, but no confirmation - no announcement to Killian, no emotional scene, or even just a last portrait of their future family.
Don't know if it's just me, probably so, but I think this open ending just leaves the readers wanting to see some more of a conclusion to it, or at least thats what I felt with this story. I'm a bit sad we don't get to see that glimpse of the future, truly sealing the end of this manwha.
But even so, this was a masterpiece to read through, and I am contemplating on reading through the novel as well, at least to see the difference in the endings as many have discussed. Loved it, as it was different than any other isekai manwha I've read before.
A true 9/10 for me
