The father is an asshole, but sealing his emotions is honestly pretty similar to someone falling into depression because of his heartbreak and the world turning grey.
But just because your world lost all colors and you're left with cold facts and logics to avoid falling into despair doesn't mean you have to become a dick about it.

@JPANIME to be fair, it is likely based on a very historical practice (in the kingdom of France notably, although I don't doubt other countries might have done it at some point). The reasons are exactly as explained here.

@Eustass90 Law There's an important difference though : while Metatron is certainly an arrogant a**e that has staken his claim on her, he does respect her agency, proof being how he's not trying to isolate her like the prince tried to. He's absolutely pissed about Ikarus being into her and her into him, but we've not seen a hint of toxic behavior regarding that bit, contrary to the Prince who is toxic as h*l

@Approved_Asian I mean, his behavior is so toxic, if I were her I'd be terrified of him.
I see so many comments telling how "romantic" his actions were but all I see is an obsessive ML that will be a danger if she gets involved with him, to her or to himself.
Like there's no doubt in my mind that guy would kill himself without hesitation if she rejected him and that is terrifying.

@Eustass90 Law Actually, I think he planned to have a proper relationship to be at least a half-decent person, but the true purpose was to pave the way for his childhood friend to marry him in the future.
Basically, marry powerful woman to stabilize his reign -> once she dies, take his childhood friend as empress now that nobody will make a fuss

For those like me who can't wait: this manhwa is based on the webnovel "Geek Outcast Necromancer" on Novelpia (which is 165 chapters long and completed)
The reason this is tagged gender bender is because the novel is a gender bend, but it seems since it didn't add anything valuable to the story the manhwa decided to make the MC a woman from the start (which is a great call tbh).
The webnovel is generally more detailled but the downside obviously is that there may be times where the MC is gendered male because it's a gender bend.
Chapter 54 is where you wanna start if you just want to see what's next.

@Russ Chan It is. In order to be smart you need to be educated, and it wasn't unusual at the time to use kids as spies since not many people pay attention to them. A kid that's unusually educated for her social class is anormal, and if you're looking for something that might be wrong, then anything anormal is suspicious.
