Like even within our own society, we keep on wondering why higher ups are so obsessed with mass destruction. It's probably a matter of ideology: when a thing or person in particular doesn't follow their demands, they just get rid of it to create their "perfect world". Also, when you're already at the top, I guess you just get bored
