@Elsa I'm pretty sure at the time they couldn't do anything about so all they could manage was taking nanmu's punishment along side him. If you remember nanmu had become fed up with his "punishment" and bit someone's d*k off. The boss was thinking of an even worse punishment for him. If they had stopped the punishment out of nowhere the boss would have used that as an excuse to punish or make nanmu's life even more h*l And they HAD stopped before the boss told them he didn't need them to continue which means he had known they were still doing it.
