If he don't want it end it. You try, it's ok, but don't cling. You only hurt yourself.
I know that it's a commitment thing and you were together for 15-20 years, but if it broke, you try to fix it and it still doesn't work just end the suffering (not from prospective of the husband, but for the wife peace and healing). And it doesn't matter want his excuse is. He broke the relationship, the trust, the life they had (not even a proper conversation about what really bothering him.
