@Mason before she eat the real Rosalin she can trasform to any animal that she before. But The Shadow eat Rosalin ALIVE and that's forbidden for them because if they do they can't transform anymore and can't live for many years . They will die on that body like Human did . That's the punishment of eating something ALIVE even it's animal or human they can't eat it alive .
