@Mr Greed I don't think gas mask will suit the outfit, viel seems more appropriate and since it's fantasy I can just say it's a magic imbued viel that works like has mask and it makes sense.

@MidnightPaws he doesn't have a short life the blessing didn't work because of 2nd reason, as mc said before he was already healthy now both physically (due to excersize) and mentally ( because he got his magic circle).
