I wonder how the author thought of the name mesara and explains it that originates from Crete. 
Well the only explanation is that the author must have visited the Greek island of Crete and especially Messara or Mesara which is located of south of Heraklio, the capital city of the island.
Ether way I'm glad you mentioned Greece.
