Im confused but im going to try to string my thoughts together; Mesarthim, being suspicious and all, isnt actually a bad sheep that doesn't have Shane in mind, but he's withholding information as to try to not worry Shane and is actually trying to both help Shane and his heros. That line "All he can do is repeat the past for all eternity" is from the fishes description, so its clearly from the star, so maybe Mesarthim is actually trying to get Meltier out of that endless cycle with Shane (Farzan being an unexpected twist), trying to heal the world instead of uts end.

Kill him Shane, you know you want to, if he's lucky maybe he'll turn into a hero (and understand all the pain he's put his heroes through)
