Not making excuses here and I hope he really works for Jayna's forgiveness 

but he genuinely believes she isn't his child because her mom made him think she doesn't love him and that she was playing with him. He was so hurt, he literally locked up his emotions. 

I'm sure when he realises she's his daughter he'll treat her better
