@Hirofu I think this was the patriarch's way of clearing the name of Jin. Now they can't go after him for "his crimes" that he committed while a reserve flag bearer, and this gave him a path forward.
Really, it was a "it'll either kill him or clear his name" move and he might have had faith in Jin- as he showed explosive growth most of his life in this timeline.

@scarekte Sure, I understand pacing and letting a story unfold, but they're not showing OR telling. They're introducing plot points or characters and just glossing them into place. I can understand the smoke being explained later, but meowy is just there one day. You know?

This story is pretty weird. They gloss over plot points and just move the reader right past them, making it seem like you missed something. Weird black demon smoke that apparently she has seen since childhood? Talking demon cat? Did fl have formal education? What's the details on the mages/demons? "We're not focusing on that.
