@TotallyAbsurd from my perspective the fact that there's been no real development on his part is the point... the world keeps shifting and changing around him while he's longing for ghosts and slowly losing touch

All jokes aside Kaeha's kinda been used and abused for the sake of this plot point. So the boomer isn't MC, but the author who has such a hard time coming up with stuff to write, he only recycles the same stuff over and over

@TotallyAbsurd the point is that they were each other's first love.
And while its "a pretty old concept to be hung up on the first person that touched your heart," its because they were the first that its hard for him to let go. And it doesn't help that his such an extremely long lived species, making two lifetimes for humans the equivalent of a year to him.

I'd agree wholeheartedly if it wasn't a pretty novel concept in the grand scheme of things, which has only began to take root in the over-romanticized slew of clichés that is modern culture. Funny random thought I had recently is that clichés and memes are pretty much the same thing, the only real difference is how it's been perceived by the contemporary people. Tells you much about the evolution of the zeitgeist over the last century alone.

 

Matter of fact, most people don't even really remember the first person they've been close with. Same deal with the so-called childhood friend trope.
Those only work because the target audience is essentially a bunch of bums with little to no social life or life experience as a whole for that matter. (just like SF sounds like a clownshow for real scientists.)
