@AhjinM01 I don't know I believe in the plot armour but he was having trouble with two even with an increased level he can't take on a whole army of them

He was having "trouble" because he was considering his circumstances. One breath attack can kill them but he needs to think about the amount of air so they can breath, not killing his friends with the radiant heat, and conserving his mp for more difficult fights. These are the same reasons why he didn't stay and fight the centipede.
