(i havent finished yet but) he doesn't necessarily need to have been abused to be a maso*****. it's completely normal! you cannot choose which fetishes you have, and as long as everything is between consensual adults, there is no issue.
i think that it is harmful to think in a way that someone has to have been through something in order to have a "weird" kink. no kinks are weird! like what you like and don't judge others for their preferences :)

@jellyybean I disagree… kinks that put your life in danger are weird, putting yourself in danger, eating s*t 💩 is weird etc but each to their own perspective I guess. 🤷🏽♀️
