@PerpetuallyTired the same tactic abusers use. Eventually you will feel isolated from others since they don't know true you. And you can't ask for help if you have trouble since you eventually left out with feeling that the only place you belong are the arms of that abuser. 
Also what he does is emotional abuse still. Cause he is manipulating ml to believe in alternated reality. When actually he does not know what happens behind his back. They are lying. How the he** the idea that it's okay to lie to your partner/loved one is there as an OK concept. I hope his friend will open everything up about it to the pure hearted guy.
