He grew up distrusting people and guarding against temporary emotions. So he thought have a contract relationship would be easiest but that thought ended with Penelope. He admits to her he's been interested in her since the night in the labyrinth and he couldn't think of her without laughing like a mad man. He wanted to meet her again and speak to her but she kept rejecting his invitations which frustrated him. He then tells her even though he knew she'd hate it, he kept a sword on him every time he visited her room after the poisoning. If she died, he planned to kill himself because he didn't have the confidence to live in this he** without her. But also tells her if he's too late that it's fine and if she wants to go back do, and forget him. She hits him and starts crying as her emotions are a mess. But she is happy and excited from him saying he loved her.
She tells him she can't give him the answer he wants which he accepts. She then tells him he said he'd do anything for her. She then tells him she's going to kill Yvonne and shows him the wand. He jokes that she would be better off with a better weapon. She then tells him when she does this they may not be able to be together anymore and if he still loves her. He tells her he will follow her wherever she disappears to. Just like today, he'll follow her. He then repeats that he loves her and they kiss. A very long kiss
