@freak star thats because yaoi was orginally made by women for women and till now it is a gay genre with heavy feminine gaze. Bara is made by gay men for gay men but imo yaoi tops. Im biased obviously 
Nowadays yaoi creators have become more diverse and so has the fan base, but you are right that majority of fans are women/girls.
