What I think is that Our Main character felt bad for Nie Lingyue when they were kids because no one wanted to play with him and everyone was scared so I think the original Bai Yu pitied Nie Lingyue and decided to be friends with him instead. And when they grew up our MC just actully wanted to be bros with Nie Lingyue because the original already had feelings for luo fang( ?or whatever his name was ;-; ) The villain grew to be obsessed with MC but the Mc just wanted to be like bros or buddies? ( idk man..It's already so hard not to read the villain's name as 'Nie Mingjue or Nie Huaisang' bro.....OML am I really *that* hooked ith MXTX?????)
