@meow so if you start a business, you can either start it all by yourself that means you will be investing your money and no one else. You won't be having any shares issue here.
But if you start a business with a business partner then you both become business partners(can also be more than 2). And the amount you both will be investing will be sum of your shares. For example out of 100 % of investment, you decided to invest 60% of it. that means your shares in the whole investment is 60%. You profits and loses will solely depend on your share values.
So, shares are basically the amount of money invested by one party.
Since it's a big and trusted company(in this story) they have more share holders. And the person who gets to manage all these shares is the CEO. Since he stepped down, instead of letting his heir take the lead, he sorted the shares and handed them to both seme and villian.
Here, the seme's father invested the shares into different kind of business... So the person who gets the hold of most shares is the person who gets more kind of businesses which is obviously a plus point for them.
