Honestly, I don’t know... I mean, clearly he used his powers unexpectedly on a civilian: so technically he is a manipulator, he should be a red flag...

But then again... As the MC is the only one who is good with him, and that he holds more than everything to him, he did not want their link to go to waste/be broken by something as stupid as a friend who freaks out in front of espers. Honestly, I think he knew what he was doing and that he had no intention of hurting him, just to prevent him from unnecessarily making the MC doubts.
For me, he is not a red flag for the moment was that he behaves more or less well with the MC. (We all saw clearly worse... C not that a REAL red flag)
As long as he doesn’t manipulate the MC with his powers or put emotional pressure on him, he’s not a red flag for me... But that might change in the future of course, we don't know yet...
