Excuse me? Mr. Doctor what are you even saying? Losing a child is not a terrible experience? They'll have a healthy kid next time? WTH!?!?!
Can you say that to the mother who bore that child in her body for months and had dreams for the child forming a bond with him/her? Can you say that to the father who was indeed looking forward to holding the child and build a family?
I wanna smack him!!! Comforting someone is alright but saying hurtful things is not it. Give your condolences and leave if you have nothing good to say.

@Unevenblink you need to look at the time period reflected. Infant mortality and even death during childbirth wasn't uncommon. So here you have a doctor who has probably seen this so much he is personally numb to it and has lost his ability to empathize. So to him it is just a Tuesday thing. Not saying he is right just that he is numb to it. This is a period where many children where dead by 12. These infant, child, and childbirth deaths were what brought the life expectancies down so much. Death was a simple fever away.
