Sudden outburst of shere stoopidity isn't a shortcut for authors to write interesting stories at this point, it's a trope.
MC has been shown taking great care in being aware of his surroundings only a few chapters ago and now, this ? You can try and defend it all you want but it is what it is. It really is badly written. If you take even a split second to analyse how he seemed shooked about the ambush, while he just teleported few second ago as to shake off anyone who could be tailing him or something. So it's not even like he guard was down. It's just BS.
