Leyla redemption arc for sure brings pain to the duke when she asked him to promise to love her. But duke got the upperhand later on... again. Uncle Bill death almost meant nothing cause he loath the duke until the end of his life but Leyla still got entangled with this pr***. The duke basically caged pregnant Leyla and keep on making her to love him and he was pretty twisted himself. He threatened Leyla saying he cares about the child in the womb but in reality he dont give a sh** he wanted to kill the baby and almost succeed when Leyla fell ill. He only cared when Leyla actually accepted him.

He will love the baby later on. the kid grew just like him, black hair blue eyes. People call him the nice Matthias. Matthias, like i mentioned only care about Leyla initially. The only reason he said he cared about the baby in the womb is to chain Leyla up. Iirc he definitely had thoughts about killing his baby while it was still in womb. When Leyla fell ill while in captive in the duke's room (they were in a war and they managed to capture this one city where Leyla happened to be in and they turned this one hotel into their base), he wanted to take everything to treat her even if it kills his own child. Kyle was the one treating her since he became a doctor and got served along with Matthias team. Arguments later and Leyla recovered and baby is still alive. Matthias wanted the baby to be a girl cuz he only suggested name for girl when Leyla asked him to name their kid. Felix was born and he was well loved. Though i hate hate hate Matthias's possesive trait to the core, it was quite a happy ending. Author's way of sort of redeeming Mathiass sin was by almost killing him in the war. People thought he was ded since news spread about it too, one of the reason why Claudine break her engagement and got engaged to another person. It was thanks to Matthias's grandma connection to Lovita's royals he was rescued.

layla ran away with Uncle bill and found out she was pregnant. she repeatedly kept telling uncle bill she loved the duke (which she really did) but he couldn't believe it and hated on him. later layla finds out she's pregnant. meanwhile the duke flipped the entire continent upside down to find her, even fell seriously ill because he couldn't live without her. he also breaks his engagement with claudine and makes the reason obvious and decides to marry layla just there.

when he finds her, she was already in her last few months of pregnancy and uncle bill had just died because of a war that broke out. again she thinks Matthias going to imprison her so she insists on him letting her go but he cages her because there was war outside and everything was in shambles. she keeps whining about it till she falls sick.

the meds she was supposed to take weren't suitable for pregnant women, on the other hand if she didn't take them she would've died. Kyle insisted on saving the baby over Layla. but Matthias made his decision and wanted to save his beloved because they can have more babies later but layla dying was something he didn't want to bear.

well nothing happens when she's given the meds, and when she wakes up he tells her she can leave and she does. later she comes back to him because she knows she can't live without him either.
