That is not how it works entirely.
if you are a man and you are attracted to men & would date men then you are gay/qu*** in some way.
even if you like women as long as you like the same gender you are gay in some way.

if it's a woman it's the same if they like a woman they are gay/qu*** in some way, doesn't matter if they only exclusively like women or like men and women.
same gender attraction = gay

Dating yes does not equal that u like that person but calling yourself something like "straight man" while you're dating a man is wrong cause if a "straight" man is willing to date a man that means he's not straight cause he likes men in some way. And it's the same with a woman dating a woman. She would not be "straight"
 if it were to be a woman saying she's lesbian but she dates men then that would be wrong as well cause she's cannot call herself a lesbian if she actually "enjoys" dating men.
she might just have what's known as comphet. But that's not always the case.
so my point still stands. 
The guy in the bl claiming to be "straight" if he is dating /would date a man that clearly means that he likes that man cause why would he go out his way to date a man so he's gay in some way.
