@Chichi You should read carefully. He figured out that time regresses upon her death when he killed for the third time. Any sane person would think "Ah, then I guess she's the person I shouldn't kill" but instead he kept killing her fully knowing that loop will reappear. If he simply wanted to stop regressing then why didn't he freaking talk to her about their regressions especially when he found her getting abused? She was in the most vulnerable situation and at his mercy. Yet hat mo** kept killing her without trying to figure out the reason. Trying to defend him mercilessly and SILENTLY killing her every time with "oh he just wants to stop regressing" is just dumb.
More than that, he was talking about researching it in the church but he didn't. Why not if he spent 2 years in the church in his every regression ?
