i used to think that Toono and Yacchan were meant to be together but after rereading i noticed so many things
when you look closely at the story Toono’s dynamic with Yacchan feels much more like a close friendship rather than romantic tension Toono in my opinion consistently treats Yacchan as someone he feels comfortable around someone cute supportive and easy to talk to after finding out he's like true personality their interactions give off the energy of genuine friendship even during the scene where they kiss Toono doesn’t react with clear romantic excitement instead he appears confused and unsure about what just happened. His reaction doesn’t feel like someone realizing romantic feelings; it feels more like someone processing a surprising moment with a friend
however Toono’s reactions around Kashima are noticeably different When Kashima kisses him Toono shows much stronger emotional and physical reactions He blushes more intensely and clearly thinks about the moment afterward theres a sense that the interaction affects him in a deeper way. The narrative often highlights how flustered he becomes around Kashima which suggests that Toono is experiencing genuine romantic tension rather than simple friendship.
so this is why I believe Toono and Kashima were intended to be the romantic pairing from early on their scenes are written with stronger emotional impact and clear romantic cues, whereas Toono and Yacchan’s relationship feels softer and more platonic. it seems much more likely that Yacchan represents an important friend for Toono, while Kashima is the character who actually triggers Toono’s romantic feelings.
