That's not that bad. My dad and stepmother was 13 years apart. She was also 12 years older than my sister. 

I'm assuming you don't read much storyline like this. There are times when the the husband is in another generation than his wives. Alot believes the younger the wives the longer she will stay beautiful and make more babies.

At least that's what I learned from reading all kinds of royal theme storyline.

It was very common in the past for couples to have wide age gaps, even some parents these days have much of an age gap. During the royal times, or the medieval if i were to say. It was common to be betrothed to people of same status even thought the age gap is... questionable
