I understand that he's avoiding his grief by trying to avoid thinking about it. But this is a worse before it gets better situation. You have to bring the painful feelings out and really process them to heal. Just like pus needs drained from a wound to heal properly. You just can't let it fester by pretending it doesnt exist.
