They're really struggling when it comes to portraying Kawai as a character. Truth be told, I believe that at some point the author had an idea of what exactly they wanted Kawai to be, but over time that was lost, resulting in the complete mess of a character known as Kawai. 

everyone at some point has regretted something they've done, even the victim in this story; Nishimya. However, Kawai has yet to genuinely lament over what she's done until now. It's ridiculous
