The emotional tension is actually so endearing, and Keaton going for the kill and facing this head on is such a refreshing thing to see in BL manga/manhua/manhwa's.
I'll ramble on for a bit more, but the fact that Keaton prefers a straight forward approach does make sense to his character. Being a younger sibling and having an overprotective sibling can make him feel more caged and closed off, which is probably why he's an 'act first think later' kind of guy. He probably doesn't get the chance to act on his own behalf with Karl 'looking out' for him all the time.
