Ok so he is good but you need to know he said no to you don't bring you liking him up very often best not bringing it up at all 
No matter how nice he is you don't want to burden him or make him feel guilty! 
Also that doesn't me you don't express it and suffer alone 
Just change the way of expression 
You like him then do small things for him to make him happy and be his good frnd 

And slowly try to move on....
