This is one of the reasons why I hardly read Chinese romances. It's the same concept every time. You'll never get to enjoy reading. Instead, you get stressed out. You have to honor the hierarchy. You can't even do anything because you have to respect elders even if you're suffering from abuse. You have to endure it. And if a married woman doesn't give birth to a son for her husband, you're useless. And get abused mentally and physically, but you know you have to endure it because you are the wife, and you have to be virtuous.
