And while I don't want to say the same thing about him misunderstanding his feelings... I think he misunderstands his feelings. I think it's not about him loving her but rather about her giving him attention,being nice to him,showing him "love" (giving him a completely different situation as the teacher.) he is scared of other women, especially older woman but after he gets close to that one specific older woman she gives him a completely different experience and that's why I think he misunderstood his feelings. I think he feels a love and strong connection like you would have to a mother figure (aunt,teacher,older sister...) and not love like romantic love
