@iren true. He already started out with the debt and the pressure of granny's treatment since it was a big hospital and he was actively trying to extend her life with surgery. That's why he accepted that relationship and didn't run away from JK even with the abuse, but after granny's close call I think they went to quality of life type hospital so now it's just depression he has left not desperation to save granny.
