I been thinking for a while, maybe Gunko is related to Brook's old captain and thats where they could have met, in brooks captain hometown.

@Tenshi Brook was the commander of palace knights in his hometown and was called "Humming Brook" so I think that was where they met. Brook helped her as it was his duty and eventually they became closer.
@PORTOGAS D ASCE That also seems possible, I wish we knew where Brook hometown was, If Oda doesn't just out right give us the info in the next chapters
@Tenshi Brook is from the West Blue but we never got to know which country or kingdom he was from
