The author could have easily made that backstory shorter he could have said.
"I dated this guy for awhile. But then one day he wanted me to get a tattoo. I did not want to get a tattoo at the time, so I tried to run away but then his little friend got me. He looked me up in a basement for a long time. His frend abused me evetday, then one day I got the opportunity to escape. And I took it. So then I ran far away as I could, that's when I found my friend van."
And then all of that other stuff that happened.
